Online Poll about “Organizational Agility”

On September 14th 2017, the PMI Northern Italy Chapter organized a well noticed conference about „Make it New! The Value of Project Management for Innovation Strategies“ at the Bologna Business School.

Six speakers from Italy, Germany and Switzerland highlighted the topic from different angles.

Eduard Pfister, CEO of parm ltd., explained in his speech "Organizational agility - what it is, and how to support with innovative ICT Systems" that in the age of a rapidly changing world a high ability to innovate is only possible through an agile company organization and culture. Within the scope of the lecture, more than 100 participants were invited to participate in an on-line poll on organizational agility. Eight questions were asked about the level of agility in the respective company. It was a surprise.

  • The most widely accepted statement was "We encourage cross-organizational collaboration" (good value 3.5 on a scale of 1 to 5)

  • The least common consent was "We rapidly develop and deploy new products" (low value 2.3)

  • The greatest variance in the answers was found in the statement "We have established an ongoing / iterative strategy review process" (low value 2.6).

Over all eight aspects, the survey showed that the individual companies are very differently advanced in the realization of an agile company. Values of 1.1 (no agility available) up to a maximum of 3.9 (agility partly good) are proof of the high uncertainty and the longsome transition from the traditional organization to the agile organization.
